Happy Birthday
I was on watch from 06:00-08:00. Nothing of note to report. My watch before that was from 20:00 to 22:00 on the 10th and during that two hour window we saw winds increase to 27.8 knots. They were not sustained at that speed but they did get up to it. Of course the seas responded with waves from 6-10ft and have not really settled since. We are currently in following seas and just over 120 KNM’s from Port Blair, travelling at 6.5 knots and higher when we surf off the rollers in this following sea. Sleeping or shall I say trying to sleep in these conditions has been challenging for all. Including Shawn and Ally who have been in more severe conditions during their journey through the Pacific. I think the cabin I have is the most comfortable if you can call it that, for these conditions. Since there is space between the hulls on the catamaran occasionally waves come crashing into the second hull with a slam that would send you calling 911 if it happened to your house. Have a look at the video taken out my port hatch.
Back to my birthday. The morning started out sunny and warm. I was planning on heading back to bed after being relieved off my watch by Ally but decided to have a tea first. I’m glad I did. For a brief flash we had one or two dolphins on the port side. It looked like they were chasing the flying fish, which are everywhere out here. Unfortunately at the time the dolphins were just a flash in the sea. I was hoping to get some video but nothing. Then not 5 minutes later they returned. Not just 2 the entire pod and stayed with the boat for at least 10 minutes. Hopefully I can add the video to this instalment. They were so close it felt like you could reach out and touch them. Just as quick as they came, they disappeared into the indigo blur of the Adaman Sea.
As we sail we troll a fishing line off the stern. Until yesterday no luck. Near midday Shawn happened to notice we had something on the line. Low and behold it turned out to be last nights birthday dinner. An 18 inch Wahoo. Delicious. The picture below was my birthday present that Larissa painted during the day.
If the conditions continue and our speed holds we should be arriving in Port Blair sometime tonight. Thanks for reading. Please note that I am writing these while I have no service so multiples will be posted once I do regain service.
