Long Island

No Ice Tea here!

This is the start of our day that took us from Havelock to Long Island. One that was expected to take 9 hrs but came in under 6 because of great winds. We headed here because there is an Eco Lodge and Resort. We heard there was a restaurant available so we thought a couple of days at anchor and then head out.

We arrived and low and behold there is a lodge but we were told a flat out no to the idea of eating there. No reason given. Just the cook, who by the way is the only one working at the

”restaurant” saying no. There were two separate groups of people eating at the lodge when we arrived. One gentlemen came to see where we were all from and he gave us directions on how to get to the main road. From where he was standing he pointed in a direction that took us into a water buffalo pasture. Of course we didn’t know that. There were no signs that said “You are entering a water buffalo pasture” No we thought we were looking for a path to the main road. Another “20 minute walk”. As we were making our way through the pasture, dodging patties every step of the way Larissa came upon an embankment. Climbing it she startled about a dozen water buffalo that had been taking a swim in a pond. She scared the shit out of them. Which startled her and made us all a little leery about a water buffalo stampede. Then we hear people yelling at us from the lodge that we were going the wrong way. No kidding! It was the guy who gave us the directions in the first place. Once back he said “yeah we got lost on the way in” Turns out the “path” was right next to the lodge. The walk, as all do, started out nice. Soft grass and a gentle breeze with exotic birds calling to one another. Then the path turned into a goat trail that led up a 20 degree incline in the middle of a jungle. Rocks everywhere. Eventually we made it to the top of the hill and found a one track mud packed road. Now I mentioned that there were two groups at the restaurant. The second group told us that there was a “good road” that we would eventually get to. Well we never did. At one point in any journey you need to take stock in what you are doing and ask yourself “why the f#$k am I doing this.” Turning around we met the second group as we were coming back down the hill. They told us they prearrange a taxi as it’s so far away from the local village to walk.

The location is absolutely beautiful but there is absolutely nothing to do except dodge crocs!

Back to the boat for bangers and mash and a game of Blog. Tomorrow we return to Havelock.
