It’s been a bit since the last blog. I actually had written one and when I went to post it the damn thing disappeared. Technology and me! As you can see I’m celebrating the Lion’s victory over the Vikings and just about everybody in the NFC North. I don’t get to watch or listen to the broadcast but am able to catch the highlights on YouTube after the game is over. What I really like to watch are the “Calls of the Game” from Dan Miller. Right now he sounds like he’s loosing his voice. Luckily he has a week off from calling the next game.
In the time of my last post we stayed a few days in Phi Phi snorkeling and hanging out. We now have our full crew complement now that Sasha and Edgar have joined the boat. Edgar is chief engineer for a super yacht and Sasha is studying interior design. Edgar has some very interesting stories on how those with unlimited monies spend their time on a yacht. Now we are making our official departure from Thailand. We cleared Harbor Master, Immigration and Customs all yesterday and are given 24 hrs to vamoose.
Currently our boat captain, Shawn, has Sasha on the helm, allowing her to get a feel for sailing the boat as we all will be responsible for overnight shifts in the coming days. Tonight we’ll stay one more night anchored near an island and then tomorrow we’ll set sail for the Andaman Islands. A four day sail. Something I have never tried before so I am very excited to get the first night under my belt.
For those who sail the Great Lakes I have a question, would you be on the lakes with 15-20 knot winds? I know that I would be a bit leery being on Moondog in those conditions on Lake Huron as the waves would be quite uncomfortable. Yet the catamaran SY Imagination likes it at 15 knots. At that wind speed we’re averaging 7-8 knots SOG (speed over ground). I am amazed that the wave heights in the open water at 15 knots are nowhere near what I would find in the Great Lakes.
As always on a boat things need repairing. The photo below is of Shawn and Larissa working on the fishing reel. They were at it for hours and then figured out what needed to be done but by that time they were fed up with it and said they would go back to it tomorrow. Which was two days ago….lol…
Yesterday the spring on the outboard snapped so that needs to be fixed later today once we drop anchor. There’s always something that needs to be done on a boat.
Remember only 3shopping days left.
